About Black Beauty Lily (Henryi x Speciosum)
The (Lilium) Black Beauty Lily (Henryi x Speciosum) features 3-inch (7 cm) flowers with striking dark raspberry recurved petals edged with a thin white line, a green star-shaped centre and elongated pale-green stamens. Standing tall on 4-7 foot stems, this Lily certainly demands attention.
An exceptional Oriental hybrid, Black Beauty is a crossbreed of L. henryi and L. speciosum, renown for its strong growth and high bud count. Considered a groundbreaking achievement in botanical history, this garden wonder was created by legendary American lily expert, Leslie Woodriff in 1957.
Come late summer, its 15-40 flowers per stem create a breathtaking show - like a rainstorm of stunning red bells swaying in the breeze. There is only one Black Beauty Lily, and no garden or wild meadow should be without it.
