About Canna Angel Martin

Canna Angel Martin (Indica Hybrid) has showy peachy-pink blossoms that create a striking contrast against its lush tropical foliage. The large, dark green banana shaped leaves have a visible crimson hue at their undersides.

Canna Lilies, known for their fast growth, are among the easiest summer plants to grow. They bloom from the hottest weeks of summer until the first frost, attracting hummingbirds and other pollinators. Angel Martin prefers more shade than other cannas and happily grows in large containers, garden beds and borders.

How to Grow Canna Lilies

Planting Canna Lilies

  • Plant in spring after the last frost.
  • If you cannot plant your bulbs and perennials right away, store them in a cool, dry, dark location, like a basement.
  • Plant in the garden when soil temperature reaches 16 °C (60 °F) or more.
  • Plant rhizome flat in a sunny to semi-shaded area about 10 cm (4 in) deep and 50 to 60 cm (20 to 24 in) apart.
  • Water thoroughly after planting.
  • Soil should be rich and contain organic material such as chopped leaves.

Growing Canna Lilies

  • These bulbs are great for borders.
  • Plant in groups which then appear more natural.
  • Cannas are heavy feeders because of their rapid growth so a timed-release fertilizer works well.
  • Do not plant too close to the house to allow for proper growth.

Canna Lilies Care

  • Keep the plants moist but not soggy and feed regularly.
  • Remove faded flowers promptly for continuous blooming.

Winterizing Canna Lilies

  • Hardy in zones 7 to 10, elsewhere lift or protectover winter.
  • After first fall frost has blackened the foliage,or the foliage begins to wither, cut stems backto 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 in). Lift the bulbs: gentlydig up bulb and allow to dry off.
  • Store in slightly moistened vermiculite or peatmoss in a cool 5 °C to 10 °C (40 °F to 50 °F) location.

How many flowers in 1 rhizome? Thanks

Hi, here is some information on Canna Flowers:

The number of flowers that can emerge from a single canna rhizome depends on several factors, including the variety of canna, the growing conditions, and how well the plant is cared for. Generally, a healthy canna plant grown from a single rhizome can produce a substantial number of flowers throughout its blooming period.

### **Typical Flowering Characteristics:**

1. **Number of Blooms:** Each canna plant can produce multiple flower spikes or stems throughout the growing season. On average, you might expect several flower spikes, each with a number of individual flowers. The exact number can vary widely, from a dozen to several dozen blooms per plant over the course of the season.

2. **Blooming Period:** Cannas typically bloom from mid-summer to fall. Each flower spike may have several flowers that open sequentially, extending the blooming period for each spike.

3. **Plant Size and Health:** A well-established and healthy canna plant will generally produce more flowers. Proper spacing, ample sunlight, regular watering, and fertilization all contribute to better flowering.

### **Flowering from Rhizomes:**

- **Initial Growth:** When you plant a canna rhizome, it will first establish roots and foliage. It may take a few weeks to start producing flower spikes.
- **Mature Plants:** Once the plant is mature and well-established, it will produce more flowers. The more robust the plant, the more flower spikes it can support.

If you provide optimal conditions—full sun, well-drained soil, adequate water, and regular feeding—you’ll maximize the flowering potential of your canna plants.
