About Iris Hollandica Assorted

Iris Hollandica – Assorted (Dutch Iris Mix) features a graceful selection of elegant, mid- to late-spring blooms known for their tall, slender stems and orchid-like flowers. This mix typically includes a range of striking colors such as deep purples, vibrant blues, sunny yellows, and crisp whites, often accented with contrasting markings. Valued for their refined shape and long-lasting blooms, Dutch irises are ideal for borders, garden beds, and especially cut flower arrangements. Their airy, sophisticated appearance adds height and a touch of elegance to any spring display.

How to Grow Iris

Planting Iris

  • Plant these plants in fall.
  • Keep plants cool until planting and be careful that they do not dry out.
  • Plant rhizome flat in a sunny to semi-shaded area about 3 cm (1 in) deep and 45 to 60 cm (18 to 24 in) apart.
  • Water thoroughly after planting.

Growing Iris

  • These plants will grow in most soils provided they are not too wet and are adequately drained.
  • Water as needed during active growth periods, but allow the soil to become dry between watering.
  • This is a bold plant that can be used as a focal point in the middle or back of the garden.

Iris Care

  • All-purpose garden fertilizer applied at the beginning and middle of the growing season is effective.
  • Keep the plants healthy by removing dead flowers, leaves and stems.
  • These flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies.

Winterizing Iris

  • Foliage should be cut back in the fall.
  • For new plants, provide a winter mulch of evergreen boughs or salt marsh hay after the ground freezes to help prevent heaving.
