Planting
Canna Lilies
Plant in spring after the last frost.
If you cannot plant your bulbs and perennials right away, store them in a cool, dry, dark location, like a basement.
Plant in the garden when soil temperature reaches 16 °C (60 °F) or more.
Plant rhizome flat in a sunny to semi-shaded area about 10 cm (4 in) deep and 50 to 60 cm (20 to 24 in) apart.
Water thoroughly after planting.
Soil should be rich and contain organic material such as chopped leaves.
Growing
Canna Lilies
These bulbs are great for borders.
Plant in groups which then appear more natural.
Cannas are heavy feeders because of their rapid growth so a timed-release fertilizer works well.
Do not plant too close to the house to allow for proper growth.
Care
Canna Lilies
Keep the plants moist but not soggy and feed regularly.
Remove faded flowers promptly for continuous blooming.
Winterizing
Canna Lilies
Hardy in zones 7 to 10, elsewhere lift or protectover winter.
After first fall frost has blackened the foliage,or the foliage begins to wither, cut stems backto 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 in). Lift the bulbs: gentlydig up bulb and allow to dry off.
Store in slightly moistened vermiculite or peatmoss in a cool 5 °C to 10 °C (40 °F to 50 °F) location.
