Planting 

• Plant these bulbs in fall.
• These bulbs require a well-drained soil. If they must be planted in heavy soil, it would be a good idea to mix some sharp sand into the soil.
• Plant them with the pointy end up in a sunny to semi-shaded area about 15 cm (6 in) deep and 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8 in) apart.
• Water thoroughly after planting.
• Hyacinth’s bulbs can cause skin irritation, therefore wash your hands after planting.

Growing 

• Close placement to the house allows you to enjoy the fragrant aroma from the bulbs inside the house as well as in the garden.
• These bulbs are great for containers and can be used for indoor forcing.

Taking Care

• These bulbs are deer resistant and work great in areas where deer or rodents are a problem.
• Fertilize just before they start blooming.
• Pick some flowers for a bouquet and enjoy the beautiful fragrance.
• Remove the flowers when they are spent. Otherwise, the plant will divert energy from building up the bulb, which is necessary for next year’s display.

Winterizing 

• After flowering, the leaves should be allowed to die down. The leaves will gather sunlight and provide nourishment for next year’s show.
• These bulbs come back for several years.
